amazing

Interesting clouds, aren't they? I've seen these kind of stretched out clouds before, but I'd never seen puffy clouds underneath these stretchers.. I wonder if that means the wind was at different speeds at different altitudes? Maybe a cloud expert can chime in here... :-)

This shot was taken from the top of Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. Note:On the day G+ launched its new profile style, I was in LA. I went out to capture a cover photo and this was the shot I took. Some people had asked to see the full photo, here it is... (My cover photo is a really close-up crop of this photo.)

Ranbir Kapoor in Abhinav Kashyap’s next

With an array of releases and with some of very promising projects in his kitty, Ranbir Kapoor is definitely one of the most promising actors in our industry at present. So, it did not come as a surprise when Abhinav Kashyap (Dabangg fame) chose him as the central character for his next project. This will be Abhinav’s second directorial venture which will be based in Mumbai and Ranbir will be seen as a street smart tapori with a pure tapori accent. Abhinav Kashyap himself will co-produce this film with Viacom 18.
With this project in his hand, Ranbir gets the honor of being the only actor in Bollywood to be under the hands of both Kashyap brothers. He is working with elder brother Anurag Kashyap’s period film Bombay Velvet.
Currently, Ranbir is busy with his role of a deaf and mute character in Anurag Basu’s Barfee and a romantic role in Ayaan Mukherjee’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.

Emraan Hashmi as a rustic pan chewing reporter in ‘Shanghai’

There is no denying the fact that Emraan Hashmi has given many successful films at the box office. His last release ‘Murder 2’ was a big Bollywood hit and the first look and trailer of his forthcoming ‘Shanghai’ looks quite promising. Emraan plays a foul-mouthed reporter in this Dibakar Banerjee’s flick and for this, he had to chew tobacco.
On the first day of the shoot, Emraan Hashmi was asked to chew tobacco for a scene and Emraan found the taste so disgusting that he almost threw up and felt giddy.
The director insisted that since his role required him to do it, there was no other way out. After a lot of discussions, Banerjee and Emraan Hashmi came to the conclusion that the actor should chew tobacco.
However, Emraan failed to appear for a promotional event with his co-star since he was busy with his shoot for ‘Jannat 2’.
A disappointed Banerjee said, “I was heartbroken that we were not able to kick off the promotions with a trailer launch. We went through a lot trying to coordinate Emraan and Abhay’s dates and then change it all over again.” Shanghai is Banerjee’s release after two years, since his last film LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha. The movie stars Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin.
The first trailer of the flick shows Emraan as a rustic, paan-chewing village thug and he made his way into cine lovers hearts when he gave a scornful smile, his paan-stained teeth flashing on the screen.

Great Achievement ...... :-)

The dream of true cybernetics -- merging man with machine -- just got a bit closer. Scientists at Northwestern University built a device that can send signals from the brain directly to paralyzed muscles, causing them to move by thought. This technology could help patients who have suffered spinal cord injuries regain the use of their limbs.
The work was done in rhesus monkeys, who were given a local anesthetic to block nerve activity at the elbow, which caused temporary paralysis of the hand. Before they were given the anesthetic, though, the monkeys were trained to grasp a ball, lift it and release it into a tube. The signals from their brains to their hands and arms during these activities were recorded via an electrode implanted painlessly into their brains. After many repetitions, the researchers were able to see what kinds of signals were necessary to cause the the limbs to move. It turned out that the information was encoded in only about 100 neurons.Knowing that, the scientists designed a device, called a multi-electrode array, that was able to pick up the tell-tale signals from the 100 or so neurons, decipher them and send them to the muscles -- bypassing the anesthetized nerves.
The signals that reached the muscles made them contract, enabling the monkeys to pick up the balls almost as well as they did before they were given the anesthetic.
The motions weren't perfect. Lee E. Miller, a professor in neuroscience at Northwestern and the lead investigator of the study said it might be because it takes some time for a monkey to learn how to use its arm again this way.
Other research teams have enabled monkeys to take mental control of machines, and there has been some work done in humans on linking prosthesis to neural signals. But the big advance here is better voluntary control and directly connecting to the brain. Previous efforts have been geared to interpreting signals through the skin at the end of an amputee's stump, for example, or controlling arms via shoulder movements. This type of interface provides voluntary movement more like that experienced naturally.

GOOGLE PRINT SENDS

Since 2010, Google has offered their Cloud Print service, which allows a person to print a document from a smartphone. Now those people will have the ability to print documents to a local FedEx office.

This service is especially handy for business people who may be traveling and do not have access to their home printer. Just select the “Print to FedEx Office” option in the factory installed app and a digital file is generated along with a retrieval code that can be used at any of the 1,800 or so participating FedEx offices. Upon arriving at a store, simply enter the retrieval code at the printer to print the document.

Cancer chemical alert over crisps and coffe

Food firms have been warned about the presence of a cancer-risk chemical in everyday products ranging from crisps and chips to instant coffee and ginger biscuits.
A biscuit designed for babies and toddlers has also been caught up in the alert.
Experts are even warning families to only lightly toast their bread at home, as the chemical, called acrylamide, is more likely to form the longer and darker foods cook.
A study by the Food Standards Agency has identified 13 products containing raised levels of the chemical. In each case, officials at the local council where the supplier is based have been told to notify them.
crylamide, which is still being investigated by scientists, is a cooking by-product associated with frying, baking, roasting or toasting foods at very high temperatures, usually greater than 120c.
The FSA insists its findings raise no immediate risk to the public and there is no need for people to change their diet.
However, it is putting pressure on all food companies to reduce acrylamide levels because long-term consumption could increase the risk of cancer. Its official advice is also that families should ensure bread and chips they eat are only toasted or baked to the 'lightest colour possible'.

The Emperor 1510 Computer Workstation (Picture Below) is the future of high-end home and office computer work environments. The Emperor offers functionalities that enable the user to experience unprecedented comfort and quasi total immersion through strategically positioned monitors, audio system and accessories. There's also a luxury model, the Emperor 200 which is like the G450 Business Jet equivalent of where ever you normally sit to surf the interwebs, but is oddly more expensive than actually chartering a private flight.

The built-in monitor mount allows for up to three 24″ screens, and the built in LED lights in the upper structure provide ideal lighting without causing a glare. There’s an adjustable keyboard tray for your ergonomic pleasure, and the seat controls allow for tilting, lifting, lowering, twisting, turning, and any other relevant verbs you could associate with internet usage.

A series of various inputs and outputs accommodate your Mac, PC, or favorite gaming console, and the audio control pod makes adjusting the levels of the built-in Bose sound system convenient and simple.

All you need now is about $6,000 for the Emperor 1510 and $45,000 for the Emperor 200, plus shipping, mmm...slightly worried that the shipping cost could be overpriced though :P

2012 Sonakshi Sinha to sizzle in ‘Chikni Kamar’

Ever since ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ stole the limelight from Sonakshi Sinha’s debut vehicle ‘Dabangg’, the girl has been clearly stating her wishes to do a sizzling item number. Finally, her wish is being granted as she is doing an item number in Akshay Kumar’s forthcoming ‘Rowdy Rathore’ and guess what! The song has been titled ‘Chikni Kamar’.
As the name suggests the song follows the essence of Katrina Kaif’s item number Chikni Chameli and as Sonakshi calls it, the number is a “a complete masaledaar song”.
Sonakshi’s moves for the song will be choreographed by Vishnu. However, unlike Katrina Kaif, who shed kilos to get in shape for ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ Sonakshi has not been asked to lose weight. “Prabhu Deva and everyone else I’m working with like me the way I am..” claims Sonakshi.
The song will also feature Akshay Kumar and will be soon shot in Hampi.

Microsoft Beats Estimates as Windows Makes a Stand

SEATTLE — Microsoft is facing some of the biggest challenges in its history with the rise of smartphones and the iPad, but one of its stalwarts of the personal computer era showed there is still life left in its main business.
Microsoft said Thursday that sales of its flagship software product for PC, the Windows operating system, rose 4 percent in the quarter. Analysts were expecting a drop in the business because of broader industry data showing weakness in the personal computer business. Gartner, a technology research firm, recently estimated that worldwide PC shipments had grown only 1.9 percent in the quarter.
There is speculation within the technology industry that the supremacy of the PC is over and that Microsoft’s influence is waning along with it. Executives at Apple have boasted that the explosive growth in sales of the iPad and the iPhone are evidence of the arrival of a post-PC era.
During the final three months of last year, Microsoft had a drop in overall sales from Windows, at least partly because of the Apple iPad, which sapped sales of low-end laptop computers. In its most recent quarter, sales of Windows PCs to consumers suffered because of the iPad.
Big business customers, though, picked up the slack, showing how Microsoft’s products are entrenched within one of the most lucrative sectors of the technology market.
“It was nothing to get superexcited about, but relative to what we were experiencing, it’s better than a poke in the eye,” Rick Sherlund, an analyst at Nomura Securities, said of the Windows sales.
Another indication of that strength was a 14 percent increase in sales in Microsoft’s server and tools business, which includes databases and other software products for businesses.
“We are very pleased with the way businesses are investing in technology,” Peter Klein, Microsoft’s chief financial officer, said in an interview.
Microsoft reported a decline in net income to $5.11 billion, or 60 cents a share, compared with $5.23 billion, or 61 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. That decline was mainly due to a tax benefit of $461 million that Microsoft received last year, without which net income would have increased year over year.
Revenue rose to $17.41 billion, from $16.43 billion a year ago.
While its core franchises, Windows and Office, continue to generate profits for the company, Microsoft is struggling to adapt to some of the deeper changes in the technology industry in recent years, especially the shift to mobile devices.
Apple, Microsoft’s longtime rival, has been the biggest beneficiary of that transition and, indeed, has led it, with products like the iPhone and iPad. As a result, Apple now has a market value more than twice that of Microsoft.
Microsoft is preparing to respond to the iPad with Windows 8, a new version of its operating system that has been overhauled to take better advantage of touch-screen devices. That product is not expected to be released to PC manufacturers until late this year, at the earliest.
An earlier Microsoft effort to counter the iPhone has not yet borne fruit. For more than a year, the company has been offering its Windows Phone operating system for smartphones, with little success. More recently, phones from the Finnish cellphone giant Nokia with Windows Phone software, including the Lumia 900, have hit the market to generally positive reviews.
Microsoft does not reveal sales figures from its mobile phone software business. In a sign of the difficulties Microsoft still faces in the mobile market, its most important partner in the mobile business, Nokia, said Thursday that sales of its new Lumia phones had been “mixed,” with better results in the United States than in other markets like Britain.
While Microsoft has been able to point to its video game business in recent years as proof of its grasp of consumer technologies, that division’s sales dropped 16 percent, to $1.62 billion, in the quarter because of a “soft gaming-console market,” Microsoft said in a statement.
The company had been on a roll, with strong sales of the Kinect, a sensor device that allows people to play Xbox games without holding a traditional controller.

But the traditional games business this year has not shown as much innovation as in the recent past, said Mr. Sherlund, the analyst, who speculated that the Xbox could be experiencing more competition from games on Facebook and mobile devices like the iPad.

Facebook newss.....

To win over Instagram, Facebook was forced to show its hand.
Facebook bought the photo-sharing service for $1 billion in early April, agreeing to pay roughly 30 percent in cash and 70 percent in stock, according to people briefed on the negotiations who did not want to be identified because the discussions were private. At that level, Facebook is pegging its own stock price at roughly $30 a share. Based on those numbers, the giant social network is valued at north of $75 billion.

But Facebook could actually be worth more.

During the negotiations with Instagram, the parties framed the deal around a logical assumption: Facebook could soon trade publicly at a much higher market value. As part of the talks, the companies discussed a potential value of about $104 billion for Facebook, these people said. One of Instagram’s founders, Kevin Systrom, first broached the number, one of the people said.
At $104 billion, the value is roughly in line with where Facebook has at times traded on the secondary market: shares of the privately held company have been selling for as high as $40.

Scareware uses child porn warning to scam money

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre has issued a warning about scareware messages saying your computer is associated with child pornography and demands money to fix the problem.
RCMP on Prince Edward Island told CBC News Wednesday they have been receiving complaints.
"Over the past couple of weeks, some Islanders have received pop-up messages on their computers claiming to be from the RCMP or CSIS or the Federal Government of Canada, and they state that the computer is involved somehow with child pornography," said Sgt. Andrew Blackadar.
"These pop-up messages, if people click on them, will actually lock up people's computers."
The warning messages tell recipients to pay $100 via Ukash so their computer can be unlocked.
Such messages, commonly known as scareware, are designed to create such shock and anxiety that victims respond by sending money quickly, said RCMP.
Last November, Ukash posted an alert on its website about a similar scam targeting residents in the United Kingdom.
If you've been "locked out" of your computer, it's an indicator that your system may have been infected with malware and you will need to take steps to address the problem. To protect yourself, the RCMP suggests you:

Giggs can play into his 40s says Neville

Gary Neville has backed his longstanding Manchester United team-mate Ryan Giggs to continue to play into his forties should the Old Trafford great wish to extend his brilliant career that long.
Former England full-back Neville retired midway through last season to pursue a career as a media pundit, having himself won numerous trophies with United.
Both Neville and Giggs were members of the celebrated 'Class of 92' United youth side that spawned several first team regulars at Old Trafford.
But Wales winger turned midfielder Giggs was widely regarded as the cream of that crop and, at the age of 38, he could yet extend his record of English titles to 13 should United win the Premier League this season.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already got Giggs to sign on for one more season but Neville said he had several more campaigns left in him.
"Will we ever see his like again? No, no way," said Neville.
"Ryan Giggs will go down as the most successful British footballer of all time and I cannot see anyone ever overtaking him. He's on the brink of his 13th league title, after all.
"When we were younger, we often heard about Alan Hansen's amazing eight championships with Liverpool. But what we are witnessing at the moment is greatness before our very eyes.
"Ryan is unique, he has surpassed all records in terms of domestic titles and he has incredible desire, quality and spirit. He's just fantastic to watch.
"You give up asking how long he could go on for. Why bother?
"When you see his quality and what a contribution he makes to the team why would he even think about it?
"Ryan is 38 years old, and he will contribute at the age of 42 if he wants to, the way his body is right now, the way his football is and the quality he still has."
Neville was speaking as part of a series of interviews carried out on behalf of the Premier League leading up to the end of its 20th season.
Giggs is the only player left who has featured in them all and Neville added: "The best player in the history of the Premier League? It's got to be Ryan Giggs, no question at all.
"He has constantly adapted his game.
"He went from being a flying winger in the early days to someone who could play off the front, to a central midfielder, and even to left-back if required.
"He can play anywhere and that's what really great players do: they adapt."
Neville added: "Ryan has a God-given talent.
"I first played with him when I was 14. He's still the best young player I've ever seen.
"It's astonishing what he could do -- the ball was tied to his feet and he could do everything at amazing pace.
"And, it's probably not the first thing you think of when you mention Ryan, but he's so tough mentally and physically very strong.
"He's got an incredible appetite and determination to keep working hard and win things every year."

SRK in legal soup for smoking during IPL

Many a times in the past, Bollywood Baadshah Shahrukh Khan has landed into trouble for smoking in the public which is banned in quite a few cities across India. Once again, SRK has landed in a legal soup by smoking at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur during an IPL match between his team Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. To add to the damages, the footage was broadcasted live on the TV.
Anand Singh Rathore, the director of Jaipur Cricket Academy, has lodged a legal suit against Shahrukh Khan. Rathore also wants an enquiry over why Shahrukh was allowed to carry cigarettes inside the stadium when the security doesn’t allow cigarettes, match-boxes, lighters and even water bottles inside the stadium.
The additional chief judicial magistrate’s court has fixed April 12 as the date for next hearing.
It may be mentioned here that in 2008, the then health minister Ambumani Ramadoss had a public tiff related to Shahrukh smoking on-screen in the remake of Don.
SRK himself is aware of his addiction and had once said, “I know this (smoking) is a bad thing but the habit doesn’t leave me. I am trying hard. Even if someone says it to me or not, I know about the ill-effects of smoking. I will try it and give it up on my own. I know it is not a good thing.”

Salman Khan to gift a BMW to Kareena Kapoor?

Till now Kareena Kapoor had maintained her stand that she would not do item numbers for any flick. However, when her friend and ‘Bodyguard’ co-star Salman Khan requested her to shake it for an item number in his forthcoming ‘Dabangg 2’, Bebo could not manage to give out a NO.
So, now we have Kareena Kapoor to do a sizzling item number in ‘Dabangg 2’ and Salman, known for his gestures of appreciation has decided to gift a BMW to her to repay her favours.
This is a tweet from the UTV Motion Pictures’ senior manager Prithwish Ganguly: “@BeingSalmanKhan to gift Kareena Kapoor a BMW for being a part of Dabangg 2”
Well, this is not the first time that a Bollywood star has shown his gratitude to a colleague for a favour. Prior to this, SRK had gifted Sanjay Dutt a bike worth Rs. 15 lakh for his cameo in Ra.One. Again, Akshay Kumar made a huge donation to Salman Khan’s Being Human charity when Sallu Bhai made a song appearance in Tees Maar Khan

Kareena Kapoor signs endorsement deal with a lemonade brand for Rs. 5 crore

Kareena Kapoor may not be clear about her marriage plans but the girl is surely going places at her professional front. The moment her contract with a popular cola company expired, Bebo lost no time in signing another deal with a lemonade brand for a whopping amount of Rs. 5 crore. She has also started the shoot for the commercial at Brabourne studio in Mumbai.
With this, Kareena Kapoor has about 16 brand endorsements to her credit. 2011 was a big year for the actress with quite a few hits. Her latest ‘Agent Vinod’ was a success at the box office and she also signed Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Heroine’ for a big amount of Rs. 8 crore which is the highest sum ever paid to an actress in our industry.
Kareena was also spotted shooting for her very first commercial with the brand a few days ago at Brabourne studio in Mumbai. Adds the source, “Both Katrina and Asin who endorse soft drinks have had ads that have gained a lot of popularity.
Though Kareena Kapoor says, “I am not allowed to talk money!”, here is a look at the charges of top Bollywood actresses for their endorsement deals. Katrina Kaif charges Rs. 4 to 4.5 crore per deal, Priyanka Chopra Rs. 3 to 3.5 crore per deal, Deepika Padukone Rs. 2 to 3 crore, Madhuri Dixit Rs. 1 to 2 crore, Vidya Balan Rs. 1 to 1.5 crore and Anushka Sharma Rs. 80 lakh per deal.

De Gea: Chelsea save was defining moment

David de Gea is hoping his stunning last-gasp save at Chelsea in February will turn out to be the defining moment of Manchester United's season.
Prior to that game at Stamford Bridge, there had been genuine debate as to whether De Gea should even be selected.
He had missed the previous league victory over Stoke due to a minor injury, at which stage he was already receiving criticism for his performance in the FA Cup defeat at Liverpool, which even Sir Alex Ferguson has since said was not a good day for the Spain Under-21 star.
However, Ferguson kept faith in his £18million summer arrival from Atletico Madrid and, not for the first time, was rewarded.
Questions may have been asked about how United ended up finding themselves three goals behind against Chelsea but, having hauled themselves level, to then lose anyway could have had a devastating effect on team morale.
Yet lose is almost certainly what would have happened without De Gea, who somehow managed to claw away Juan Mata's injury-time free-kick which was heading into the top corner.
It was a seminal moment for United, who embarked on an eight-match winning run that helped them take maximum advantage of Manchester City's collapse, and also De Gea, who kept his sixth clean sheet in seven games in Sunday's win over Aston Villa.
"When you look back over a season there are lots of defining moments and key goals," he said.
"But, I suppose, from a team point of view, and particularly from a personal point of view, the fact the save was right in the last minute was decisive.
"It gave me a huge confidence boost as well and that was important.
"Now we are in front and we have to try and stay there because it would be a dream come true to win the league in my first season."
It means the odd fault - De Gea did not challenge for the corner from which Victor Moses had a goal harshly disallowed in the match against Wigan recently - can be excused, and outside scrutiny is not quite as intense.
In fact, De Gea is even being spoken of as a potential United player-of-the-year in a season when there are few stand-out candidates.
"It is nice to know supporters are voting me," said De Gea.
"It is always a positive when the fans are behind you. It is something I can sense when I am on the field and makes me feel more relaxed.
"It is a source of extra motivation when you know the fans are right behind you and rooting for you.

"But all that aside, it is just a case of getting your head down, keep working hard and making sure you do have a continuous improvement all the time."
Jonny Evans has suggested De Gea's inability to speak English was a positive in those early days.
Yet leaving for somewhere so different at such a young age may have been part of the problem, along with the weather and the food.
"Before I came, people back home were saying the weather in England is terrible and the food is not much better," he said.
"But I am quite a happy, easy-going kind of guy who likes to have a joke around and, to be totally honest, I like the food, the weather has not been so bad either and I am trying to pick up as much English as I can so I can take part in the dressing room banter."
In addition, De Gea has been pushing himself in the weights room, trying to add the additional muscle required in a Premier League goalkeeper.
"People are aware I have been trying to gain a little bit of weight in terms of muscle, maybe an odd kilo to bulk up a little bit," he said.
"But football-wise, there are not too many differences. The concentration levels are certainly the same, you can't let them drop for an instant."

'Different class' Scholes should replace Wilshere for England at Euro 2012 - Parlour

The ex-Gunner has tipped the veteran midfielder to make a sensational return to international football after confirmation that the Arsenal youngster will miss out through injury

Ray Parlour has backed Paul Scholes to replace Jack Wilshere in England’s Euro 2012 squad after confirmation that the Arsenal youngster will miss the tournament through injury.

Wilshere has failed to make a single competitive appearance for the Gunners this season after suffering from a persistent ankle complaint and Arsene Wenger has ruled him out of action until next season.

His absence leaves a glaring gap in England’s midfield and Parlour thinks that Scholes is the player capable of filling it following his sensational form since coming out of retirement to return to action for Manchester United.

“I always thought that Jack was running out of time to go to the Euros because he has been out for such a long time,” Parlour told talkSPORT.

“It is a massive blow because it could have been a massive tournament for Jack Wilshere and England if he was there.

“Paul Scholes has been different class since he has come back. He has really helped Michael Carrick out in that midfield area. I think [Carrick] has improved since Scholes has come back.

“Scholes will definitely have a chance, if he wants to. It’s down to him if he wants to play or not.”

SRK’s visit to Yale University: Sour beginning with a happy ending!!

It created stirs and ripples of outrage when Bollywood superstar SRK was once again detained at the US airport, this time at a New York airport for two hours on Thursday as he arrived there to visit Yale University. He was honoured at the Yale as a Chubb Fellow, joining a distinguished list which includes former presidents George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter and authors Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes, and Toni Morrison.
Later US sent its apologies and gave an excuse that Khan was not “detained”, but “simply delayed”.
State Department spokesperson Mark Toner suggested that to avoid such incidents “travellers can alert – identify their status before they depart via the embassy. And that’s one approach or avenue to take.”
Well, the journey which started with a sour note ended happily as SRK charmed the students of Yale University with his wit and performances and fans travelled from as far as Alabama and California to join with members of the New Haven and Yale community to hear SRK speak to a capacity audience of about 1,700.
Shahrukh Khan not only gave valuable advices to the students but also danced his signature ‘Chammak Challo’ moves with Yale student Natalia Khosla. “This is the most fun I have had in months!” SRK said.
Yale University summarized the entire episode in a light note. “As SRK himself would tell you, what is most important in his movies is how they end rather than how they begin,” Assistant Secretary George Joseph stated adding, “And yesterday, things began in an unfortunate manner, but ended in a way that left everyone happy.”

Quieroz: Manchester United target Gaitan would be a success

Benfica's Argentine winger is reportedly being targeted by Sir Alex Ferguson after impressing against the Red Devils in two Champions League fixtures this season

Former Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Quieroz believes that Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan has the potential to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

Gaitan, who joined Benfica from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2010, played a key role in his side's two Champions League draws against the Red Devils this season.

And the 24-year-old, who can play as either an attacking midfielder or an out-and-out left winger, is now a reported target for Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Argentina international has a £38 million release clause in his contract at Estadio da Luz but reports have emerged suggesting that a move to England will be completed this summer.
It is believed that Gaitan will head to Old Trafford for a £20m fee, with Brazilian full-back Fabio and Italian striker Federico Macheda heading in the opposite direction on a season-long loan and a permanent transfer respectively.

And 59-year-old Quieroz, currently head coach of Iran, has no doubt about Gaitan's ability to acclimatise to life in England.

"From what I have seen, I have an excellent opinion about Gaitan," he told Portugese radio station TSF.

"I do not know what United's plans are for the left wing, but Gaitan undoubtedly has potential and capacity to play in the Premier League."

United defender Fabio set for loan

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Brazilian defender Fabio will go out on loan next season and hailed Jonny Evans as possibly the best defender in England.

Although he featured in the Red Devils' Champions League final defeat to Barcelona last season, Fabio has failed to progress as expected.
A succession of niggling injuries have not helped and, ahead of this afternoon's Barclays Premier League encounter with Aston Villa, Fabio had made just 15 appearances in all competitions this term and started only twice in league combat.
And, while it will mean splitting him from twin Rafael, Ferguson believes the best thing for Fabio's development is a spell away from Old Trafford.
"Fabio will go on loan next season to give him concentrated first-team experience," Ferguson told United Review.
"I have already talked to him and he understands the value of playing regularly at a higher level than we can give him at the moment."
Evans is among a number of United players who have benefited from the loan system, spending time at both Royal Antwerp and Sunderland.
And that experience has come to the fore this season as Evans has proved to be an able deputy for injured skipper Nemanja Vidic - so good indeed that Ferguson believes the Northern Ireland international stands comparison with the very best.
"I must admit my heart sank a little when I learned just how long Nemanja Vidic was going to be out," the Scot said.
"He and Rio Ferdinand had become the cornerstone of our defence but Rio responded brilliantly, despite his back problem, and has now struck up a fine partnership with Jonny Evans.
"Jonny came to us from Belfast when he was 12 or 13, always exceptionally talented but gangly with physical issues growing up.
"We had him out on loan with Antwerp and Sunderland and now we are seeing the value of nurturing him.
"There is no doubt he has been helped playing alongside the experience of Rio and he is now arguably the best defender in the country."

Wake-up call at Wigan

David De Gea says he is "really enjoying" his first experience of the Barclays Premier League title race and insists the players are determined to get back on track against Aston Villa.
The Reds' 1-0 defeat at Wigan, coupled with Manchester City's 4-0 win at West Brom, saw United's lead at the top cut from eight points to five with five games remaining.
City travel to Norwich on Saturday lunchtime with Sir Alex's men hosting Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday and De Gea is confident the Reds can bounce back from the surprise result at the DW Stadium.
"It was a disappointment on Wednesday but sometimes it can be a wake-up call just to remind us that anyone is capable of winning games in this league, against any opposition," the goalkeeper told ManUtd.com.
"We will be even more focused now going into these last five games, starting on Sunday, and carry on that battle for the title.
"I am really enjoying the title race and I'm happy we still have a five-point advantage over Manchester City.
"We know there is still a little way to go yet and there is still plenty of work to do. But we can't wait for each game. I want Sunday to come round as quickly as possible. We want to keep putting in the performances we have been and we are determined to keep fighting to keep that advantage."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hinting at her comeback?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is still basking in the glory of motherhood or so it seems from her lack of interest to lose those extra chubby fats. Her husband Abhishek Bachchan’s comment sometime back that Ash was pretty happy playing a mom supported the guesses that she was not too keen to return to her career.
However, recent moves by Aishwarya suggest a turn of things. Not only did she attend an event in Dubai as a brand ambassador of the luxury watch brand Longines, she will also attend the Cannes Festival this year as a brand ambassador of the cosmetic giant L’Oreal. On the advertisement front, the beauty is eyeing on endorsement deal with an Indian jewellery brand for a staggering amount of Rs.10 crore. Rumors have it that she will be seen with her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan in these jewellery advertisements.
On her returning to the silver screen, husband Abhishek Bachchan says, “As and when she wants to come back, is completely her decision. As and when she decides, when she sees a script she is inspired by – the decision is entirely hers.”

ones and Smalling hail ‘unique’ Manchester United veteran Scholes

The Old Trafford pair praised the midfielder, who returned to the side in January having retired at the end of last season, and believe he should make England’s Euro 2012 squad

Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have hailed the impact that Paul Scholes has had since his return to Manchester United in January.

The 37-year-old, who has won 10 Premier League titles during his Red Devils career, retired at the end of last season but was brought back to help an injury-ravaged United midfield at the start of 2012.
As his fitness has increased, so has the level of his performances, and Jones is in awe of the veteran's lingering ability.
"He's a terrific player," the defender told The Daily Mail. "When you see him in training, the things he does, it’s a joke.
"He is like a magnet to the ball. The positions he takes means he is always around the ball, always there to receive the ball, always there to support play."
With Euro 2012 set to get underway in less than two months, Smalling believes that the experienced midfielder would be a great inclusion in the England squad.

"He is unique," the youngster enthused.
"There are moments in the game when it is all rushed and he settles it down when he gets the ball. He has the ability to dictate.
"Come the summer there may well be calls for him to be included in the England squad and it will be because he is a player in great form and someone I’m sure any England manager would want."
Scholes turned down the opportunity to play at World Cup 2010 when Fabio Capello was in charge of the Three Lions setup, but Jones believes that his age should not affect his potential inclusion this time around.
"I don’t see why, [his age would count against him]" said Jones. "I think as long as you are mentally one or two steps ahead of people on the field, I don’t think it will be a problem."

The wake-up call

Put a positive spin on it, some Manchester United supporters were heard to say after the Reds capitulated at Wigan Athletic on Wednesday night. ‘This night,’ they continued, ‘is a wake up call for the squad. They won’t blow it now.’ Indeed, the oldest cliché of them all – ‘trust in Sir Alex’ – was commonplace, as was talk of United’s five point Premier League lead. All true, but little more than a mask for the most calamitous performance of United’s season – and there have been some corkers.
From the horrific complacency, to the bizarre tactical mish-mash, this was a United performance with no equal this season, coming at a crucial time to boot. Hubris is for the fans though, not players, and certainly not United’s manager.
But few supporters can genuinely say this wasn’t coming, following sub-par performances against Norwich City, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers in recent weeks, when United could easily have dropped more points. That is to say little of the disastrous Europa League campaign.
No, it was depth not the manner of United’s performance that shocked.
Almost none of Sir Alex’ side, nor indeed the manager himself, escaped the DW Stadium with dignity or reputation intact. Old hands, in particular, had such poor nights that they have much to answer for. The experience Ferguson has based his challenge on displayed such immaturity that the manager may need to quickly recalibrate.
But for Manchester City’s own capitulation in recent weeks, it could have been a season defining – or ending – result.
This was no fluke though. The home side was so much sharper, hungrier, and more determined right from the start, with United’s players seemingly so complacent about an impending title win, that more than one supporter was compelled to ask whether Ferguson’s team was collectively inebriated. Drinking, perhaps, in the dressing room. Heavily. The fruity Belgium ale that leaves the imbibed seeing double, and nursing the mother of all hangovers the morning after.
“Wigan were the better team. We were second to every ball and only had one shot at goal,” admitted Ferguson, who was unusually forthright in his criticism.
“It was one of these off-nights you get. We have been on a great run. It has been tremendous and it has put us in a position where we can win the league, and we have to get over the disappointment of tonight.
“It was a disappointing performance throughout the game. We didn’t reach a level we have been used to in the last few months. A couple of months ago City were something like 5-1 on and we were well behind them in terms of goal difference and points, and we have to take some credit that we have got ourselves back into the race. It is important to win our home games now.”
But the players were only part of the problem of course. Ferguson, who has driven a squad with limitations beyond what many had predicted this season, must also share culpability for defeat against a team United had beaten 14 times in succession. After all, while the Scot’s decision to rest Paul Scholes was not unexpected, the tactical mess was entirely the manager’s doing.
Moreover, United’s inability to deal with Wigan’s 3-4-3 formation in the opening period was forgiveable, but Ferguson’s bizarre decision to deploy almost every forward and midfielder out-of-position, even after a round of substitutions, played a significant part in defeat.
Pity, then, that the United manager should focus not on the lessons learned, but the failings of others. Referee Phil Dowd, for example, took the brunt of Ferguson’s anger for not awarding United a second half penalty when Maynor Figueroa handled Phil Jones’ cross.
“Figueroa didn’t seem to handle it – he did handle it,” the United manager added.
“The thing is, if he had been close to Phil Jones then you would say you are not going to get that kind of decision but he was 15 yards away. That was disappointing. Sometimes you get the breaks and sometimes you don’t. Last Sunday we got a break [against QPR] and it evens itself out over the season. They talk about the big clubs getting all the big decisions but tonight we didn’t get one. I thought Phil Dowd had a disappointing night, I must say.”
It was a churlish line of thinking, especially when defender Jonny Evans escaped a second yellow for a late challenge that would have troubled many official’s books. The inevitable red and one-match ban that would have followed are spared, and Ferguson should be grateful for it. Nor too should United supporters forget Wigan’s opener, chalked off for an apparent foul on David de Gea.
But in truth the United coach will move on quickly from defeat and on to Aston Villa at Old Trafford this weekend, followed by Everton a week later. In that he will inevitably invoke another of the season’s tiresome clichés and call for ‘a response’, as the Scot has done following defeats to City, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle and repeatedly in Europe this season.
Indeed, each calamitous defeat has been labelled a wake-up call, with Ferguson calling for the inevitable response from his troops. It is, we are told, the United way. Cyncis might question the quality of the Scot’s squad.
Yet, after 11 domestic wins in the past 13 matches it is cantankerous to criticise. Games against Villa, Everton and Swansea at home mean United remains favourite to take a 20th domestic title. But defeat at Wigan could yet haunt the Reds. Imagine, if you will, a realistic scenario in which City beats United at Eastlands on 30 April, potentially leaving the Reds needing a victory over Sunderland on the final day to take the title.
Now that’s a jolt of reality United fans weren’t expecting.
