Quieroz: Manchester United target Gaitan would be a success

Benfica's Argentine winger is reportedly being targeted by Sir Alex Ferguson after impressing against the Red Devils in two Champions League fixtures this season

Former Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Quieroz believes that Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan has the potential to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

Gaitan, who joined Benfica from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2010, played a key role in his side's two Champions League draws against the Red Devils this season.

And the 24-year-old, who can play as either an attacking midfielder or an out-and-out left winger, is now a reported target for Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Argentina international has a £38 million release clause in his contract at Estadio da Luz but reports have emerged suggesting that a move to England will be completed this summer.
It is believed that Gaitan will head to Old Trafford for a £20m fee, with Brazilian full-back Fabio and Italian striker Federico Macheda heading in the opposite direction on a season-long loan and a permanent transfer respectively.

And 59-year-old Quieroz, currently head coach of Iran, has no doubt about Gaitan's ability to acclimatise to life in England.

"From what I have seen, I have an excellent opinion about Gaitan," he told Portugese radio station TSF.

"I do not know what United's plans are for the left wing, but Gaitan undoubtedly has potential and capacity to play in the Premier League."
