'Different class' Scholes should replace Wilshere for England at Euro 2012 - Parlour

The ex-Gunner has tipped the veteran midfielder to make a sensational return to international football after confirmation that the Arsenal youngster will miss out through injury

 Ray Parlour has backed Paul Scholes to replace Jack Wilshere in England’s Euro 2012 squad after confirmation that the Arsenal youngster will miss the tournament through injury.

Wilshere has failed to make a single competitive appearance for the Gunners this season after suffering from a persistent ankle complaint and Arsene Wenger has ruled him out of action until next season.

His absence leaves a glaring gap in England’s midfield and Parlour thinks that Scholes is the player capable of filling it following his sensational form since coming out of retirement to return to action for Manchester United.

“I always thought that Jack was running out of time to go to the Euros because he has been out for such a long time,” Parlour told talkSPORT.

“It is a massive blow because it could have been a massive tournament for Jack Wilshere and England if he was there.

“Paul Scholes has been different class since he has come back. He has really helped Michael Carrick out in that midfield area. I think [Carrick] has improved since Scholes has come back.

“Scholes will definitely have a chance, if he wants to. It’s down to him if he wants to play or not.”
